Geoscience and society

Forum

Monday, October 28, 1:15 PM

The increasing demands of energy and mineral resources, population growth, disasters, climate change, contamination, demand of water resources, environmental deterioration, etc. pose critical challenges for societies. The geosciences, dedicated to the study of the Earth – origin, evolution, processes, structure, properties, composition – provide critical information needed for strategic planning and decision making at national and international levels. This year, the Annual Meeting of the Mexican Geophysical Union is dedicated to “Geosciences and Society”. Union and Section sessions address different aspects of the relevance and applications of geosciences. The UGM Forum on “Geosciences and Society” provides a space for the presentation, analysis and discussion in a wide context.

The scientific organizations and societies generate and provide the knowledge, expertise, methods and experimental and human capacities for addressing the challenges. This year, the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU) celebrate their centennial anniversary, and with this an opportunity to analyze and discuss the development of the geosciences, contribution and potential.

There are no Macintosh computers, so it is recommended to verify all the presentations on a PC computer before delivering it. Presentations must be uploaded to the system the day before their assigned schedule. For this you must:

  • Send them to presentations@raugm.org.mx mailing address. The subject of the mail should be Presentation NNNN, where NNNN corresponds to the presentation number; for example, SIS-12 or SE01-03. Also name the file with the presentation number, followed by the last name of the first author; for example, SIS-12-Suarez, SE01-03-Contreras. If the presentations are too large to send by mail you can use DropBox or any other service to share it. It is advisable to check in the presentations delivery area that were received correctly.
  • Or, they can deliver them in a USB, directly in the presentations delivery area. It is recommended to use the same nomenclature for the file.

Poster presentation

Screens of 2 meters high and 1 meter wide will be provided to the poster presentations. It is recommended not to exceed a poster height of 150 centimeters and leave an edge across the width of the screen of at least 3 centimeters. The posters will be displayed throughout the day they are scheduled, and the speaker may be present in any of the two blocks marked in the day's program. The posters must be placed at 8:30 and be removed at 19:00 on the assigned day. Neither the Organizing Committee nor the hotel is responsible for any poster not removed.
